The Alphanumeric Books

The objective of the Alphanumeric project is to focus students on an important and essential tool for the practice of Graphic/Information Design—Typography. This project is conceived as an introduction to two main areas of importance: Information Literacy and the History and Theory of Type Design by teaching students how to source, evaluate, and effectively and responsibly use and share information about a font’s (1) provenance, (2) classification, (3) designer(s), and it’s (4) nomenclature.

These ebooks are selected from the CCSU Design Program’s Gateway Class, Fundamentals of Graphic/Information Design (DES 122). Student’s start with research of type classifications and collection of fonts for an annotated bibliography. Recreation of fonts in a variety of materials are rendered in accurate proportion with attention to detail, followed by photographic styling and lighting, image editing, book layout and production, and finally on-demand printing, publishing, and distribution methods.
